DBS and Bank of China Affected by Vendor Breach

Galaxy Tribune — A ransomware attack on a third-party vendor has put the personal data of thousands of customers from two major banks in Singapore—DBS and the Bank of China (BoC—at risk. Although the banks’ internal systems remain secure, the breach may have exposed sensitive customer information, including names, addresses, and account details.

DBS Confirms Risk-to-Customer Statements

On Monday, DBS confirmed that a breach had exposed customer statements for approximately 8,200 individuals. The bank emphasized that no internal systems had been infiltrated and that customer funds remain protected. The exposed data primarily affects clients using DBS Vickers, the bank’s trading platform, with a smaller portion tied to cashline loan accounts.

Investigators believe the compromised statements were distributed between December 2024 and February 2025. The exposed data includes full names, residential addresses, and specific equity or loan-related details.

Bank of China Reports Breach Involving Printed Letters

The Bank of China also confirmed the breach, stating that nearly 3,000 customers had been affected. The attack targeted Toppan, the printing and distribution vendor responsible for customer correspondence. The exposed information includes customer names, physical addresses, and, in some cases, loan account numbers.

Authorities Step In to Support Response Efforts

Singapore’s Monetary Authority (MAS) is actively working with both banks to mitigate the risks and ensure proper customer notification. The Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) has joined the investigation and is providing technical support to the affected vendor, TNT, which the cyberattack targeted.

Galaxy Tribune will continue to monitor this developing story as the banks strengthen their security measures and response efforts in the aftermath of the breach.
