WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump dismissed several members of the White House National Security Council (NSC) on Thursday, just one day after far-right activist Laura Loomer personally raised concerns about their loyalty to his agenda during an Oval Office meeting.

Loomer’s Influence Sparks White House Shakeup

Loomer urged Trump to remove staffers she viewed as unfaithful to the “Make America Great Again” mission. Although Trump minimized Loomer’s role, sources familiar with the meeting confirmed that she pressured him to clean house. Loomer later posted on X, implying she had successfully influenced the decision, noting that the same officials now faced public support from Trump critics on CNN and MSNBC.

Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump told reporters, “We regularly let people go—those we dislike, those who can’t do the job, or those loyal to someone else.”

Administration Removes Key National Security Figures

Since the Oval Office meeting, the Presidential Personnel Office has removed at least three senior NSC officials along with several lower-level aides. The firings include:

  • Brian Walsh, director for intelligence
  • Thomas Boodry, senior director for legislative affairs
  • David Feith, senior director for technology and national security

Sources confirmed that Vice President JD Vance, Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, and Personnel Director Sergio Gor joined the meeting with Loomer.

Signal App Use Triggers Further Scrutiny

Trump’s decision to overhaul the team coincided with rising criticism of encrypted communication practices among top officials. Waltz used the Signal app to coordinate a sensitive March 15 military operation targeting Houthi militants in Yemen. He admitted to starting the group chat but claimed no knowledge of how The Atlantic journalist Jeffrey Goldberg ended up in the conversation. Goldberg later revealed classified details about the operation.

Reporters who raised the issue on Air Force One drew Trump’s ire. “You’re bringing that up again? Don’t. Your editor is wasting your time,” he snapped.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon’s acting inspector general launched an investigation into Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s use of Signal for operational planning and is now reviewing similar practices by other defense officials.

Loomer Pushes MAGA Loyalty and Strong Vetting

Loomer, a known conspiracy theorist and Trump loyalist, has repeatedly criticized members of the national security team on social media. She complained to allies that Waltz had excluded her from the NSC vetting process and relied too heavily on “neocons” and others she labeled “not-MAGA-enough.”

“It was an honor to meet President Trump and present my findings,” she wrote on X. “I will continue to push for strong vetting to protect national security and the President.”

Trump praised Loomer as a “strong patriot” and described their discussion as “constructive.” He acknowledged that Loomer made hiring suggestions and explained, “I listen to everyone and then make a decision.”

Firings Raise Concern on Capitol Hill

Senator Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), who sits on key military and intelligence committees, expressed concern about the NSC dismissals. “It raises eyebrows when respected individuals from the intel community lose their positions without explanation,” he said.

Waltz had already reassigned around 160 nonpolitical detailees from the NSC back to their home agencies at the beginning of Trump’s return to power. The decision removed experienced experts on issues like counterterrorism and climate policy at a time when the U.S. faces critical foreign policy challenges in Ukraine and the Middle East.

The shakeup also extended beyond the NSC. The White House abruptly dismissed Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Schleifer from Los Angeles shortly after Loomer criticized him on social media, a source close to the situation confirmed.
